How Nookly works

## Made in five steps From child to finished thing, in five steps.

Step one

### First, Nookly gets to know the child.

Before anything is made, you tell Nookly who this child actually is — how they look, who lives in their house, the friends and pets they talk about, and what they are obsessed with this month. Everything Nookly creates later is built from this one profile.

Set up once. Reused in everything after.

The basics

## What is social and emotional learning?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is how children learn to understand their feelings, get along with others and make kind, thoughtful choices. CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, groups these skills into five areas. Nookly uses them to shape stories, songs and games around the moments your child is living through.

1. **Self-awareness.** Noticing and naming their own feelings and strengths.
2. **Self-management.** Calming down, waiting and trying again.
3. **Responsible decision-making.** Thinking through choices and what happens next.
4. **Relationship skills.** Making friends, sharing and asking for help.
5. **Social awareness.** Understanding how other people feel.

## Find their words Help them find their words

Connection first. Words next. Plans later.

Feelings aren’t bad behavior. They’re information. Nookly helps you make stories and prompts to talk about them together.

It isn’t therapy or a diagnosis. If your child is struggling, talk to their doctor, school counselor or a licensed professional.

Name it

Words and pictures for big and small feelings.

Practice it

Role-play for joining games, saying sorry and asking for help.

Tell someone

Clear messages about trusted adults, especially for bullying.

Your words

You set the language and details for your family.
