How Nookly works

## Made in five steps From child to finished thing, in five steps.

Step one

### First, Nookly gets to know the child.

Before anything is made, you tell Nookly who this child actually is — how they look, who lives in their house, the friends and pets they talk about, and what they are obsessed with this month. Everything Nookly creates later is built from this one profile.

Set up once. Reused in everything after.

Step 1 of 5

Reading alongside them

## Their best reading partner You don’t need to be a teacher to be their best reading partner

The biggest reading gains happen when you read with them, not just hand them a book.

Research on early reading points to a few simple things: clear teaching of letters and sounds, lots of practice with real text, and plenty of talk about what the words mean. You can ask Nookly to explain what an activity practices and how to use it with your child, so you know the why, not just the what.

When your child gets stuck, help them look at the letters and sounds instead of guessing from the picture. A calm “What sound does this start with?” works better than saying the word for them.

Read together, then let them lead

Read a page aloud first, then swap. Hearing you read smoothly shows them what fluent reading sounds like.

Coach sounds, not guesses

Point to the letters, say the sounds together and blend them. Praise the effort of working a word out.

Talk before, during and after

Ask what might happen, what a new word means, and what happened in order. Talking builds understanding.

Keep it short and warm

Ten relaxed minutes beats a long, tense session. Stop while they still want more.
